DINOSAURIC PRECEPTION ROADMAP BLUES

Here’s one by the great Simon “Mahlathini” Nkabinde and the Mahotella Queens. Mahlathini, who was known in South Africa as “The Lion of Soweto,” sounds to these ears an awful lot like a close cousin to Howlin’ Wolf. . . .

Mahlathini Nezintombi Zomgqashiyo • Kwa Volondiya • 1987

  1. I've got Volumes 1 & 2 of 'The Indestructible Beat of Soweto', fabulous comps. Did they really come out as long ago as the mid-80's? Ye Gods, where does the time go?

    1. Lucky you . . . I only ever managed Volume 2 and now that's long gone. And amazing how the time flies away never to return! I brought the cassette of Vol 2 into a very conservative office I worked in and it was well played. . . .
