SHE THINKS I STILL CARE

The Big E, “way down in the Jungle Room” at Graceland, February 1976. After a couple of false starts, this track settles into a wonderful, laid back but passionate, take on George Jones’ 1962 hit “She Thinks I Still Care.” (This just out on a new RCA/Legacy collection Way Down in the Jungle Room. “Run – Don’t Walk” to get your own copy. Tell ’um Frank Jive sent you.)

  1. Very interesting stuff! At first, I was thinking that his voice sounded tired and weak, but by Take 10 he sounded fantastic - sure of himself, just like the Elvis of old.

    1. I'd long ignored the "fat Elvis" period, believing incorrectly that it wasn't worth bothering with. And considering where he was in this last year of his life, these final Graceland recordings were quite a surprise when I picked up this set. I think as a singer he's at his peak. And that's saying a lot considering what came before. . . .
