'The Complete Buddy Holly' was the first box set I ever bought, some time around 1980/1 I think. I'm not even sure that there was such a thing as a career retrospective box set before this one. It's a marvellous thing and it's jaw-dropping to think that Buddy made all this great music in such a short space of time.
I can still remember picking this set up somewhere around 1984. I had read about it, never seen it, maybe already hard to find? I walked into a used record store on Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu one afternoon and there it was. . . . Snapped that baby right up, wasn't expensive, wish I still had it. Buddy Holly's music was one of the great things about being a kid and listening to the radio in the late fifties. . . .
