In 1955 a friend of Carrie Rodgers, Jimmie’s widow, came up with the bright idea of having Jimmie’s 1930 recording overdubbed with modern country instruments. Mrs. Rodgers took the idea to RCA, and Chet Atkins and members of Hank Snow’s band did the overdubs. It came out pretty nicely and gave Webb Pierce’s current hit on “Jailhouse” a little friendly competition, charting a mere 22 years after Rodgers’ death. . . .
