Freddy Fender • Wasted Days and Wasted Nights • 1975

Tomorrow begins a brand new week, and we’ve got 7 brand new old songs for you to enjoy, by BAK favorites the De Zurik Sisters, the Chambers Brothers, Oscar Alemán, Waylon Jennnings, Tampa Red, Sir Douglas Quintet, and . . . Elmore James!

  1. I've known of this one, but have never heard it all the way through (the '70s weren't on my radar, so to speak), so forgive my ignorance. Was the dedication to Doug Sahm on the original 45 or is this a different take? It's really a very good pop song!

    1. Thanks, Marie. If I’ve got this right, Freddy Fender wrote and originally recorded “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights” for the Duncan label around 1959 or so. In 1971, Doug Sahm featured it on his The Return of Doug Saldaña LP with a spoken dedication to Freddy, and in 1974 on Freddy Fender’s first ABC LP, he returned the favor and copied his S.A. buddy Doug's dedication word for word.

There are other versions, or alternate takes, of the song sans dedication on various Crazy Cajun collections. In my little ole opinion, all good!

  2. Thanks for the info, Frank. What a great story!
