BETTY ANN IS A BLUE EYED BABY

Here’s one from Bob Wills’ old fiddle player, Jesse Ashlock. Not exactly a feminist anthem, this. . . .

  1. Regardless, I do love these fiddle tunes!

    1. Thanks, this is a good 'un innit? Jesse's fiddle and vocal are just right, the mandolin accents and solo fit perfectly, and Jack Rivers on lead guitar is no slouch either. And I don't suppose the lyrics are any more neanderthal than Leiber & Stoller's "I'm a Woman" but still. . . .

  2. I can suspend my critical judgement of these lyrics because of the time period in which they were written - and I bet Betty Ann can handle this guy, no problem. But listen to Millie Jackson's 'Hurt So Good' (1973, I think) - I'm not complainin', what you're doin' you see, 'cause this hurtin' feelin' is ooh so good to me . . ." Creepy.
