Poor man but a good man

By now most blues fans will know that the great Magic Slim passed away on February 21 at age 75 while on tour. 

During the latter half of the 80s when I lived near Chicago I was truly fortunate to see/hear him and the Teardrops live on any number of occasions in various North Side clubs. Then around January of 1991 I found myself in Lincoln on business and dropped by the Zoo Bar, where Slim was in residence, and caught two or three sets; he was, of course, fantastic, and each set became progressively hotter than the preceding one. Just the thing for a sub-zero night. . . .
