Please write my mother

Even with Willie Dixon’s goofy narration, which Wolf reportedly refused to do himself, this is still one of Howlin’ Wolf’s heaviest recordings.

Going Down Slow – Howlin’ Wolf – 1962

  1. Wonderful recording, BB! I haven't actually heard this album from beginning to end.

Not related, but your comment about the 'goofy' narration did ring a bell - it seems to me it was Willie Dixon who wrote the worst song that Otis Rush recorded - 'Violent Love.'

  2. "Violent Love" is one of the worst songs I have ever heard in my life! And not to denigrate Willie Dixon's place in blues history, but I have often wondered how Chicago blues, in particular, would have been different without all the (really, now) banal lyrics he wrote for such as Muddy, Wolf, Otis Rush, et al. I'm probably in the minority here, but still. . . .
